TASMANIAN LIGHT 2.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on November 18, 2011 by artkleko

The Ringarooma Valley in North East Tasmania, is one of my favourite places. Its high rainfall supports a thriving dairy industry and an array of agricultural pursuits. Its light is often white, due to early morning fogs in Winter and clear skies in Summer.

The top photo is of a drawing I did of early morning light in Winter.

The bottom drawing is a pastel of early morning light at Sisters Beach in Tasmania’s North West. Here the light is sharp and crisp.

I feel privileged to live on an island that offers artists such diversity.

SILENT LIGHT

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on October 5, 2010 by artkleko

I completed the majority of Silent Light, several months ago, but I was not happy with it. I decided to work on the drawing to build up the tones on the door and to place greater emphasis on the strong, white light that was entering the room via the window.

This drawing is all about mood. For once, this is a strongly lit room, not dark like the previous one I drew. This presents a whole new set of rules and associated problems.

I’m glad that the door contains a good deal of ‘graffiti’. This adds a lot of character to the door.

I shall enter this drawing in an art prize in November.

DRAWING LIGHT

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on April 25, 2010 by artkleko

Late last year I commenced another drawing featuring a door from one of the outbuildings at the historic property, Cheshunt. It’s now time to complete this work and I hope to do so in the next week.

Silent Light depicts the strong, white light that I encountered when I visited the property last year. The floor is covered in bricks and small stones. The door is stained and decorated in graffiti. The cupboard door is open, the walls are decaying. What a perfect subject!

I still have much to do especially in regards to the strong, white light and certain areas that need to be subdued.

This is a challenge that I enjoy!
