Another two miniature coloured pencil drawings, each 10 x 15cm. The left had one is of a beautifully ‘painted’ rock from the shores of Lake St. Clair, while the other is a rock pool from the Cataract Gorge, Launceston.
There’s no doubting the value of art prizes. They give artists tremendous incentive to do their best and in these tough economic times artists need as much incentive as they can get! Peer recognition is important in that it helps to reinforce that what you are doing is worth doing.
It is the responsibility and indeed duty of each artist that enters art prizes, competitions and awards, that they take these events seriously and enter appropriate work. I have seen on occasions artwork that I would consider inappropriate exhibited. If there are sponsors involved and we value them, then it is imperative that the ‘tone’ of the exhibition reflects that respect. Never take a sponsor for granted. Respect the sponsors, respect the public, do your best and everyone will be satisfied!
