How do you develop your ideas?
Today’s featured illustration is an example of one of the ways that I use to develop the ideas for my coloured pencil drawings.
I wanted to draw a modern interpretation of “The Tree of Life”. I decided to photograph a piece of cut wood that I had in my ‘collection’ of objects. I added the outline to a Tree of Life example that I had drawn on my IMac. I then printed off a copy and stuck it on my drawing table for a week or so and added comments as they came to me. In other words, the concept grew and matured over time. I’m not sure if I’m ready to start this drawing, so I’ll leave it out on my table for a little longer and see if it needs any further additions.
