Yesterday morning I attended a meeting with a group of artists who are working towards a joint exhibition titled ABSTRACTED, which I am curating at the Mezzanine Gallery, Country Club Tasmania, Launceston from November 26 until February 20, 2010.
This will be the first exhibition of abstract art held in this gallery and from what I saw at the meeting, the work to be featured gives one much optimism . This is no easy task as abstract art is not that popular in Tasmania. Patrons are quite conservative when it comes to buying art. They like to know (identify with)what they are getting. This show will be very different and I suspect very challenging for the public.
What is important is that it promises to be an exhibition of honest, experimental, diverse and stimulating art that dares us to ‘think outside the square’. I have managed to gain a major prize from a local art suppler Philcam which will be awarded for the abstract considered best in show.
Today I have posted examples of two artists’ work. I’m not saying anything about the paintings at this point in time. Closer to the exhibition’s opening I shall post some more examples and provide some comments.
