The four shells pictured today are the main subject of a commission I am undertaking.
The drawing is to celebrate a major birthday and wedding anniversary. The shells are significant to my clients. The size of the artwork will be 40 x 60 cm and when framed about 70 x 90 cm. I shall use a rounded profile moulding in gold with silver flecks to relate to the objects and furniture nearby (see the image in yesterday’s post).
After a consultation on Sunday which included me bringing along a framed drawing of what I considered to be the size required, I have decided on the following: a beach scene with the four shells in the foreground of an ocean setting. The background will comprise of a cloudy, misty sky. Large waves will roll in smashing on to two groups of large rocks. The waves subside somewhat into foamy water and all is calm as the water reaches the shore. Lace-like foam will touch the shells.
The entire composition will be explained upon the drawing’s completion.
