Winner of the 2010 Launceston Art Society’s Annual Acquisitive  Triple A Art Award ($1,000)

Yesterday was a roller-coaster ride of emotions for me. I waited all day to see if I was a finalist in the 2010 Glover Art Prize, but this was not to be. My disappointment was considerably subdued when I was announced the winner last night of the Launceston Art Society’s major annual art award, joy!

This coming Monday I will post a photo of my unsuccessful Glover entry with an artist’s statement.

As an artist you must accept criticism, no matter how harsh or glowing and just get on with life. I have more art planned for other art awards and I enjoy the challenge of entering them. The more I enter, the more I have learnt about being able to deal with the highs and lows.

I was so pleased (actually chuffed) to win last night’s award as it was totally unexpected. A little bit of recognition now and then keeps one going, knowing that what one is doing has some merit after all!
