The Creator has given us countless examples of abstract art. Look at the pattern on the rock featured in today’s image. Do you see a rock or an abstract pattern? Do you see both? It doesn’t matter, but what does matter is that the resulting arrangement of shapes could represent anything.

Abstracts sourced from the natural world are brilliant! I always use examples of patterns and marks from the landscape (although some are man-made) in my more contemporary work.

The drawing I am currently working on has a number of decoratively patterned rocks and is a real joy to create. From this particular work has come a number of associated ideas that are worth exploring.

Natural patterns can be altered in design and colour, but they will always carry with them the Creator’s hand.
