Today’s post features some of the exercises that were completed in the first session of last Friday’s art class for 10 members of the Launceston Art Society.

These paintings were fun to do, quick and relatively easy. They came about as the result of drawing and enlarging, a section from an Autumn leaf. I have displayed the paintings in the same, horizontal format for convenience. What you will notice is a landscape quality throughout. I call this Nature’s Barcode.

Some of the colours are not what one would expect, but they are personal and the result is that we see things that we know in a (sometimes) very different way.

Autumn is about decay, disintegration, change and that’s what the group strove to achieve in their major paintings in the second session that i will talk about tomorrow.
