Salamanca Landscape 1.

Polychromos coloured pencils on 240 gsm rag paper, 27 x 37 cm.

I want to complete 3 more drawings for my July exhibition. These will be essentially abstract, but will be sourced from realistic subjects, that being the Hobart wharves.

Today’s featured work is the first in this series and is basically a red line on a section of concrete. For me, it has a very ‘oriental’ feeling. There’s a lot of activity with lines and shapes ‘moving’ in all directions.

I have broken with ‘tradition’ and drawn on a white surface which I found was very suitable for the textures that are to be found in the subject.

This type of drawing was a refreshing break from my usual realist/symbolist work and after I have completed this series I may try something a ‘little different’ using a similar paper.

Tomorrow I will feature another drawing in this series.
