WHEN TO STOP

This drawing, The Living Tree, was one in a series involving chess boards that I produced a couple of years ago. I completed a number of drawings and have never exhibited them, but I’ve decided that I should finish them and at some stage have them framed and shown.

The finish of this drawing needs further attention and although I have finished adding the detail, I need to ensure the evenness of the coloured pencil in all areas.

When does one stop?

This is a question often discussed by artists. One can easily over-work their art by not stopping when they should, that being when their painting has reached the artist’s expectations. One point that cannot be ‘over-done’, is the attention to the finish of one’s artwork. Always respect the medium you work with.
