Today’s featured coloured pencil drawing is by artist, Karen Coles and I thought this work was the most outstanding produced at last Monday’s workshop.

The rock seems to be floating in space. The mark-making is exemplary as is the attention to detail and texture.

The close-up view reveals some lovely subtle details that add character to the rock and Karen’s stroke-making gives the rock a truly individual look.

I hope Karen frames this drawing one day.

This workshop was a wonderful experience for me and I look forward to another one with members of the Burnie Coastal Art Group sometime in late November when I will conduct a two-day workshop looking at abstracts from the environment.

This really is beautiful – as if someone has covered a rock in a rich patterned fabric. Congrats to Karen – I hope she reads this.

Your class looked like so much fun, Richard. Long may you continue to promote CPs for fine art!
