Coloured pencil on pastel board
I am slowly building a collection of drawings that have a religious theme. At some stage I want to have an exhibition of this work.
The drawings are quite symbolic and are often linked with environmental or social commentaries.
Some of the work is confronting, while others are quite ‘tame’, but they all have a message which will be explained with statements.
Today’s featured work has as its subject, the Cross of Christ, the true tree. There is a strong reference to the issue of clear felling our forests and of the environmental disasters that have occurred as a result which is also a visual reference to Australia being a secular society as shown by the fallen timber that acts as a barrier to the true ‘tree’. The once rich, fertile landscape is now barren. Religion has declined significantly in importance in Australia since the 1960s
