DRAWING ROCKS 2.

It’s been a tumultuous time for me since last Friday’s night’s art prize win, but I have managed to grab some quality time and develop my latest drawing a little further.

Sometimes I have completed each rock in turn, but I find that the most accurate way to draw a group of rocks is to lay down a base colour first, build up layers of colour (to get the right tone) then add the required detail.

You will notice that some of the rocks are more complete than others. I like to detail a couple of rocks early in the drawing so I can get a feeling for the content and mood of the composition.

Building such a drawing in coloured pencil takes time and a lot of patience, but the end product is worth all of the effort!

Thank you Barb, I’m glad that you’re finding the WIP to your liking. I hope to continue my latest rock study early next week. I enjoy learning new things too, and today I visited my favourite far Cheshunt, and learnt a little more about light, shade and distortion. Isn’t learning wonderful!

As a youngster I was always fascinated by rocks, especially pebbles and slates. These are beautifully done!
