If there was one negative aspect of working with coloured pencils it would be the need to sharpen them. I love Prismacolor pencils but am at times appalled by their inconsistent quality. Their waxy leads are superb to work with but often they break far too easily. Every manual sharpener I have used has still resulted in these pencils breaking when being sharpened. I had to resort to using a stencil knife to do the job. This is not good for one’s fingers over time!
Polychromos pencils are much tougher and sharpening them is rarely a problem.
I recently bought a Ledah electric sharpener and now ALL my pencils sharpen without breaking. No, I’m not being paid for this blog post, but I do believe in promoting a worthwhile tool for cp artists, and this is a beauty!
