David Lake is an acrylic painter whose work I admire. I have chosen 6 paintings from his current exhibition with pastel painter Dan Villiers, Two Views, at Country Club Tasmania, in Launceston.

Top: Early Light – A wonderful relationship exists between the landscape (foreground left and background) and the solid, old building that houses a gallery, a providore and a world-class restaurant. A lonely figure pauses to greet the first light of day.

Middle: Boardwalk – A couple dancing on a wooden stage in the glow of a still, warm day. Great use of geometric shapes, soft tones and lines, planes of colour. The Tamar River in the background as we wish it were.

Bottom: Still Day – A superb study of architectural geometry. Planes of colour bisected by clean, soft lines.

Tomorrow: Dan Villiers
