Dan Villiers is an extremely competent pastel painter whose repertoire of subjects includes landscapes animals and the human body.

Today I wish to feature two of his beautiful figurative works and on Thursday I will share with you some exciting landscapes.

Top: Pointe Dancer

Bottom: Elevation

Dan shows great respect for the human form. His rendering of these dancers reveals a sound knowledge of not only human anatomy, but the grace and poise  that is demanded of them. Note the superb treatment of the arms on both dancers as well as the understating and movement obtained through line and tone.

These figures display femininity, subtlety and strength despite their lack of size.

Both dancers are confident in their poses. The compositions are warm, cheerful and positive. A soft, inviting light is used to great effect.

These are wonderful works of art!

Tomorrow: David Lake 2.
