ARTescape Part 2.

The most important thing to achieve (and at times the most difficult to master) when drawing an object is capturing the ‘character’ of your subject.

Art is not about photographic realism, it’s about personal interpretation. Your way of seeing is unique to you and it needs to be celebrated.

Understanding the true nature of what you are drawing is so important. It enables you to identify on a level that will result in a drawing that is honest and revealing.

Today’s drawing of a piece of coral by Kath is one such example. This is truly a very special piece of work. Kath has ‘nailed it’, she has understood the nature of her chosen subject. This is one of those drawings that you want to reach out and grab. I love the sensitivity and respect in this artwork.

This drawing was one of the highlights of last week’s workshop.

Friday: A trio of leaves becomes ‘one’.
