Once the blocking-out was completed, I began to add the detail in the ‘cool grey’ section. I chose cool greys because I’ve used them with great success in the past.

I must admit however, that working on black paper was a disappointment. The paper ‘ate’ much of the cool grey colours and the surface itself had very little tooth that meant that the pencil often ‘slid’ on the paper, not ‘grip’ like I was used to with the pastel board. But I had no pastel board, only paper, and that will have to do!

As this is only an experiment, I’m not worried if the drawing is a success.

Having completed the outside section it’s time to consider what colours I will apply to the central part. I had intended to use Cream, sand, yellow ochre, goldenrod and burnt ochre, but they did not appeal.

Back to the drawing board!

Monday: What did I finally choose?

I’m always amazed at how quickly you work, how long did this first part take? It’s looking good so far, working on black paper isn’t easy as far a colour choices go!
