SHELLS

Over the years in Tasmania I have noticed that the amount and variety of shells on our beaches has been declining. Nearly all the beaches I have visited while on my 12 month holiday on the Australian mainland have had very few shells. I’m not going to dwell on this situation, but whatever the reasons, they haven’t diminished my liking for shells.

The top drawing is from Tasmania’s East Coast, while the other 3 are from Baker’s Beach, on Tasmania’s North coast.

I must admit that my drawing style using coloured pencils isn’t that well suited to shells. I find that often such work looks too ‘graphic’ and not ‘painterly’ enough for the type of work I do.
