My latest abstract is the third in a series that “draws” its inspiration from bricks that have been produced at the Austral Brickworks at Longford, in the North of Tasmania, about a 20 minute drive from where I live in Launceston.

The first 2 paintings contained some of the mortar/background that surrounded the bricks, but in this painting I have mainly focussed on the brick itself, in particular the surface pattern on one of its sides. There is indication of some of the surrounding mortar along the top.

Although this is about as ‘abstract’ as one could get, there is enough information to suggest a ‘landscape’.

The more I explore this topic, the more I expect to move away from the original imagery and ‘find’ what I’m really looking for, that being a personal way of expressing the character of the Northern Tasmanian landscape.
