Random – 60 x 40 cms. Supracolor & Luminance pencils on Canson paper. Own imagination.
Who doesn’t ‘doodle’ now and then? Most of us have done at same stage in our lives. Making marks or drawing patterns on paper, cardboard, or almost any surface is a great way to relax. It’s quite therapeutic. Such drawings can be planned, made up (imagined) or copied. It doesn’t matter how complicated or simple such drawings are, or even their originality. Art mediums vary, but pencils and pens are most popular as they are portable and easy to apply virtually anywhere, whether it be at home, school, on a bus, train, or even a plane.
What does one draw when doodling? More often than not, we draw what we know because it (usually) guarantees a result. Sometimes we just ‘play’ and see what happens. Drawings can take minutes or hours. One can return after a break and continue a doodle/drawing.
They are fun to draw!
Smorgasbord – 60 x 80 cms.
Can doodles be planned? Is there such a thing as a ‘serious’ doodle? I believe there is and I have posted 3 as examples. The top doodle, named ‘Random’, because I worked on it between more ‘serious’ drawings for about 2 weeks. Doodles 2 & 3 were created 4 years ago, but were planned, each taking about a week to draw. Are all 3, doodles, or are they drawings in their own right? All 3 are planned and most of the details come from previous drawings, plus some ‘imagined’ areas. Broken down to their separate parts, they are simply ‘random’ images, but when linked, it’s a different story. The verdict?
Landscape Rambling – 60 x 80 cms.
When is a doodle a ‘doodle’ in its own right?
Whatever the answer is, one thing’s for sure, they are addictive and fun while offering a creative form of relaxation!
